If you've been reading our blog for awhile now, you may recall my past dissertation on the magic in my BodyPump teaching uniform. Yes, like an old dog that won't turn loose his worn-out chew toy I'm still wearing the same set of threads. What's it been, three years now? That's pretty sick. (no, they're clean - Tami washes them after every class, but still...) It took a wardrobe malfunction in front of the entire class to make me trade my beloved black lightweight pants for shorts. And then for nearly two weeks afterwards I was a half-count off on all my cueing. The magic was still there - it just had to transfer from the old pants to the new shorts. I kept them together in the same dresser drawer for awhile, in case you wondered.
Anyway, for the last several months I've been pondering a change in my uniform. I really like those snazzy new shirts the guys wear on the latest set of videos. Yeah, the nearly US$93 price tag is pretty steep, not to mention shipping costs from halfway around the world. I met another instructor who was wearing one at a BP class up in DC this summer, and she said it was worth its weight in gold (considering the price, gold might actually be cheaper).
So I'm getting closer to placing my order. I'm just wondering - are these new shirts worth the money? Will they make me look as good as these guys? (or do they look "totally gay", as one of my co-workers put it) And, most important, are they as magical as the old shirts? I'd love to know!

It's too bad you weren't at the SQ in Chicago. They were selling them there! And they were selling like hotcakes. Personally, I didn't by one. There wasn't much of a "small" selection, and they're a pretty roomy fit, too. They might start selling them at all the quarterlies?!? But I suppose by the time you register for and attend a quarterly, it would have been cheaper just to order it on-line and pay for the shipping! I say, go for it. Nothing like a little magic in class!
Hi Craig,
I recently bought the moko design and it rocks, it is a 100 percent poleyester, so the design will never
fade. The shirt with the big leaf on it is so gay, I think guys who wear it look weird.
My guess is you'll get bored wearing this shirt quite soon - its magic will fade in a month. I'd wait for a better, more original design.
Gay .Gay...Gay
but oh so fetching at the same time.Go on you know you want too :)
93.00 for a shirt? He clutches his chest if I spend 20.00 on a pair of shoes!! Why don't I just go to the thrift store, buy you a black shirt and then paint some leaves on it. I'll use 'magic' paint too. ; )
I really appreciate all the feedback from everyone on this! Well, almost - I'll get to that in a second... Anyway, I took Mark's advice and decided it really was time to upgrade my outdated threads. One anonymous commenter suggested that I might get bored with the fern design I was considering - you know, I had never thought of that, but I think s/he is right. So I decided on a slightly less bold design that'll be less likely to get old after awhile.
Okay, now on to Tami's comment. What she doesn't tell you is that she's got, like, tons of shoes compared to my two shirts! Yeah I'm clutching my chest alright - and holding onto her with the other hand. Because even though she can be expensive sometimes, she's worth it!
Since we're delving into a subject that's near and dear to my heart, perhaps some of the readers can help out with this dilemma: I am by history a 100% cotton gal, but to keep up with the new duds, I've started buying the polyester. That stuff seems to smell after a few months, even though I ALWAYS clean it (promise!) I'll be up there teaching Combat and start sniffing, thinking "What IS that smell?" and that smell is ME. I've been told that the synthetics will hold on to odor, especially if you dry them in the dryer after they're washed. Is this a personal problem or have others experienced this???
I've noticed that, too. I think it might be a smell that comes from the dryer. I've stopped putting most of my workout clothes in the dryer for that and other reasons. Maybe you could wash it a couple of times on the gentle cycle (using a good detergent and fabric softener, and maybe even Febreze) to get rid of the "odor." See if that helps. If not, I guess you're just a stinky girl! lol :)
how sad that people feel that the shirts are "totally gay". Of course it's only americans that probably feel this way. You guys really need to catch up to the rest of the world
I bought one of the original polyester BodyStep shirts at the last quarterly I went to (it was on sale, because the new 'fern' stuff was about to come out). It was a pretty good $29.00 investment. I wish I had gotten a BP one as well. I'm surprised at the 'roomy' comment. I had to buy a woman's XL, and I usually buy a med size shirt. I think it's a good idea to try those puppies on at a quarterly and save the cost of shipping back and forth when you get the wrong size.
I do like the more unisex look of the new shirts. I teach at a pretty conservative gym, so we're not even supposed to wear shorts to teach in and no sports bras without a tank or shirt over them. I have to say, I was a bit astonished at the bathing suit bottoms Susan T wore for the last two BP tapings. She looks fabulous, but I don't think too many of us could get away with that look, and I really don't need to know if she got her bikini wax taken care of before filming...
